Finding Analyzed License Information

To make best use of this section you should already be familiar with How to Browse the Data-Base.

In general, the Browse area of the user interface operates as follows:

  1. You select an item from the Browse screen.
  2. The selected item (usually highlighted in blue) will display it’s contents.
    • If you’ve selected a file, the interface tries to display it.
    • If you’ve selected a folder or directory, the contents of the folder is displayed.
  3. Continue navigating downward through the folders, by selecting them, until you’ve reached the license information for which you are looking.

How to Quickly Display Licenses

The upload jobs have completed. How do I find the licenses in the product I just uploaded?
If you stored your upload in the top-level default folder (System Repository), or a subfolder, you can use the Browse menu item to access that folder and it’s contents.

To illustrate how to browse for analyzed license information, let’s look at the following example. We’ve created a folder called Fossology-Example, downloaded Fossology to it, and analyzed Fossology. Now let’s find some Fossology license’s.

  1. Select Fossology’s Browse tab.
  2. Select the Fossology-Example folder in Browse’s Folder Navigation area.
  3. Select the fossology/ subfolder displayed in the Uploads area of the screen.

  4. Select the next fossology subfolder that is displayed, as shown below:
    • Note that as you progress through the folders, your position is tracked in the Folder: area.
  5. In general, you keep browsing (selecting) the sub-folders that are displayed on the screen until the dynamic menu bar on the right side of the screen shows License as one of the choices. (As shown in the following example.)
    • Your Browse screen should now look like the following:
  6. Select the highlighted [License] menu item from the menu bar located directly above the folder information.
    • Once you’ve clicked [License], a table of the licenses found in the uploaded file is displayed, as shown in the following screen example:

  7. In the above screen, the items highlighted in blue in the displayed table are ‘hot’ links, and may be selected to obtain further information.
    • For example, if you select the Show (under Files column) next to the license called Open Software License 1.0 you will see the folder path to each file that contains that license, as shown below:
    • If you select the license name (under License column) called Open Software License 1.0, the files/directories/folders that contain that license will be highlighted in yellow, as shown below:
  8. You can use the files/folders listing to the right of the table to display additional types of information.
    • If you select a file name highlighted in blue, you will display:
      • the selected file’s text (as best as possible)
      • the license matches in the text highlighted in yellow.
    • For example, if you select the file mkinstall.sh from the above display, you would see the following:
    • If you select a folder name highlighted in blue, you will display the contents of the folder, with a license table that is appropriate for that folder and it’s contents.
    • For example, if you select the ui folder from the above display, you would see the following:
  9. Next, to demonstrate another capability of the License Browser, use your browser’s Back button to return to the previous display (shown below):
  10. Select [licenses] (far right column) located next to the cli/ folder.
    • This highlights (in green) the cli/ files, folders, and licenses that are contained in the table, as shown below:

Note: You can use the Clear button in the dynamic menu located above the table to clear the green highlighting.
