Email Notification

Email Notification is a feature of the 1.1.0 release. It is used to notify a FOSSology user when their job is done. This feature is useful when the job may take hours or even days to complete.

Email notification is enabled in the Admin→Users screens. Email notification can be enabled when a user is created or when their account information is changed.

NOTE: Email notification depends on the mail transfer agent (MTA) of the underlying operating system being operational. Email notification simply queues up the email on the system for processing by the MTA on the system. If there is no MTA configured, then mail will never be sent. Configuring an MTA on a system is beyond the scope of the FOSSology application.

The default for email notification is on. FOSSology assumes users want to be notified with email when their jobs are done. Watching a FOSSology job run is like watching paint dry, most folks do not want to watch.

Existing users created before the 1.1.0 release will not have email notification turned on, since that functionality did not exist previously. To enable email notification for any existing user, a user with the proper permissions should use the Admin→Users→Edit Users menu to enable it.
